New Diabetes Mmanagement Software Designed to Meet the Needs of the Healthcare Professional
-- OneTouch™ Diabetes Management Software Pro with SnapShot™ Makes Blood Glucose Data Interpretation Easy and Helps Detect Trends for Therapy Adjustment --

Milpitas, Calif., October 26, 2004 - A tool to help healthcare professionals improve their patients' glycemic control, the OneTouch™ Diabetes Management Software Pro with SnapShot™, has been introduced by LifeScan, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, maker of OneTouch® blood glucose monitoring products. The software helps to streamline the workflow for healthcare providers who treat patients with diabetes by automatically printing reports that facilitate access to information necessary for disease management decisions. There is no need to go to the trouble of launching the software, selecting a report menu, or even pressing the "print" key. By simply plugging the patient's OneTouch® Meter into the healthcare provider's computer, any one, or all, of the software's 11 unique reports are generated and printed.

"Healthcare professionals will benefit from a product like this, which does not add to the burden of an office visit, but rather, improves the available information to make the glucose evaluation more comprehensive," said Irl B. Hirsch, MD, Professor of Medicine, University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle, WA. "A systematic and meaningful interpretation of self monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) data is useful with respect to assessing progress toward treatment goals, identifying blood glucose patterns and discerning trends that can aid in the formulation of more precise and efficacious therapeutic regimens."

The array of charts and graphs provided by the new OneTouch™ Software will help healthcare professionals teach their patients to better understand how the choices they make in their everyday lifestyle impact their blood glucose control, the key to managing diabetes. For example, a pie chart that shows the percentage of mealtime glucose readings that fall in or out of range may help a healthcare provider indicate to a patient that he/she needs to modify the foods eaten at a particular meal. As another example, the glucose trend report makes it easy to quickly spot glucose excursions, allowing the healthcare professional to work with the patient to identify root causes, such as illness, lifestyle changes or meal-related issues.

The OneTouch™ Diabetes Management Software Pro with SnapShot™ can also help healthcare providers work with their patients to identify blood glucose trouble spots and patterns that may not automatically surface just from reviewing the individual blood glucose results in a handwritten logbook. The software offers 11 unique reports that make it easy to detect trends in glycemic control by representing data in easy-to-read logs, pie charts, bar graphs, and point plots. The reports available with the OneTouch Software include: Logbook Report, Data List Report, Glucose Trend Report, Pie Chart Report, Standard Day Repot, 14-Day Summary Report, Average Readings Report, Insulin Report, Histogram Report, Health Checks Detail Report, and Exception Report. To receive a copy of the software, or to receive additional information, contact LifeScan, toll free at 800 382-7226 or via e-mail at customerservice@LifeScan.com, or contact your local LifeScan Sales Representative.
