A Letter to Customers
LifeScan Medtronic SMBG Meter Deal

August 21, 2007

LifeScan has reached an exclusive agreement with Medtronic to develop a new blood glucose meter for Medtronic customers in the United States. The new OneTouch® Meter will wirelessly transmit glucose values to their smart MiniMed Paradigm® insulin pumps and Guardian® REAL-Time continuous monitoring systems.

Medtronic customers currently use the Paradigm® Link blood glucose meter distributed by Becton Dickinson. However, last September, Becton Dickinson announced it would exit the blood glucose monitoring business, leaving Medtronic to find a new blood glucose monitoring partner.

The new meter will be based on LifeScan's OneTouch® Technology platform and is expected to be available in Spring 2008. Medtronic will switch out the old Becton Dickinson meter for the new OneTouch Meter with its existing customer base as well as include the meter in shipments to new insulin pump and continous monitoring system customers.
This agreement will also allow LifeScan to fund a major initiative designed to promote the importance and role of insulin therapy, insulin pumps and proper glucose testing in effective diabetes management.

In addition, LifeScan will continue joint product development efforts to deliver breakthrough innovations in insulin delivery with our sister company, Animas. Both LifeScan and Animas support patient choice in product selection. Alliances of this type with Medtronic are just one of the many ways LifeScan is working to fulfill our vision of creating a world without limits for people with diabetes.
